Extreme Networks VIM4-40G4X Port Module
Product Details Introduction
Extreme Networks VIM4-40G4X is an upgraded high-speed expansion module of the VIM3 series, with a core configuration of 4 40GbE QSFP+ports. It focuses on "higher compatibility+flexible expansion" and is suitable for the advanced requirements of high bandwidth links in the core layer of new generation data centers and large campus networks.
Four 40GbE QSFP+ports all support line speed forwarding, with a single port bandwidth of up to 40Gbps. The total bandwidth can easily support scenarios such as server cluster interconnection and core switch backbone transmission, further optimizing forwarding efficiency and reducing latency fluctuations caused by high concurrency compared to traditional modules.
The port splitting function has been fully upgraded. In addition to supporting VIM3's "40GbE split into 4x10GbE", it is speculated that the addition of adaptation to 25GbE devices can achieve combination modes such as "40GbE split into 1x25GbE+1x10GbE", flexibly connecting old and new devices, and improving asset utilization.
Compatible with all types of QSFP+optical modules and copper cables, the multi-mode module is suitable for short distance interconnection within 100 meters in the computer room, and the single-mode module supports long-distance transmission of more than 10 kilometers. Paired with QSFP+copper cables, it can achieve direct connection of equipment in the cabinet, meeting diverse networking distance and cost requirements.
The adaptation range has been further expanded. In addition to being compatible with VIM3 supported models such as X590 and Summit X770, support for mid-range high-end switches such as Summit X670V has been added, and the new version ExtremeXOS has been deeply adapted. After insertion, the driver matching is automatically completed, and deployment efficiency has been improved by more than 30%.
The hardware architecture has been comprehensively optimized, using a new generation of non blocking forwarding chips. The internal forwarding bandwidth of the module reaches 160Gbps, fully matching the full load operation requirements of four 40GbE ports. The data transmission delay is controlled at the microsecond level, suitable for low latency scenarios such as AI training and real-time data analysis.
Link reliability upgrade, in addition to basic LACP link aggregation, adds Link Quality Monitoring (LQM) function, which can monitor real-time parameters such as link error rate and optical power. When the link quality deteriorates, it triggers switching in advance to avoid business interruption caused by sudden failures.
The cloud native adaptation capability has been enhanced. In addition to compatibility with VXLAN and NVGRE protocols, support for EVPN (Ethernet Virtual Private Network) has been added, which can be used in conjunction with ExtremeCloud IQ to achieve automated multi tenant network deployment and meet the network virtualization needs under hybrid cloud architecture.
